Our Junior Fiction Staff Pick is The Cat at the wall by Deborah Ellis. This is an interesting book that explores the possibility of reincarnation through the character of Clare who has been reborn as a cat on the wall between Israel and Palestine. Clare is looking for redemption for her bad behaviour in a previous life. She seeks to aide a small Palestinian boy trapped by two Israeli soldiers. The plot weaves back and forth between Clare’s former life in the US and current events on the war torn West Bank. It’s a unique approach to this story.
For Senior students our second choice is When we collided by Emery Lord. If you believe in love at first sight then this is the book for you. Jonah and Vivi are on the brink of discovering how love can change you and the trajectory of your life. The dark side of this book circles around the impact of mental illness, namely bipolar, on relationships. This is a dual narrative with two very different voices telling the story.
